35-year-old man caught with fake N4,000, gets N50,000 bail


A 35-year-old man, Sunday John, was on Tuesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court, Lagos, for asserted ownership of four bits of fake N1,000 notes totalling N4,000.

John, whose address was not given in the charge sheet, is standing trial on a two-count charge of being ownership of fake notes with expectation to cheat and cause wrongful misfortune.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, said the offenses were conferred on March 22 at around 8.50 a.m at Costain Bus Stop in Lagos.

Olatunde told the court that the blamed had attempted to utilize one for the fake N1,000 notes to buy apples from the complainant, Joy Samuel.

The prosecutor said the merchant, who recognized the N1,000 note as fake, raised the alert which prompted the capture of the charged.

Olatunde said the offenses repudiated segments 134 and 372 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The judge, Mrs. Bola Folarin-Williams, conceded the charged to N50,000 safeguard with two capable sureties in like entirety.

Folarin-Williams suspended further hearing for the situation until April 5. (NAN)
